For those new to the music of Tony Bennett, Improv was a label started by Tony Bennett and businessman Bill Hassett. Bennett was fed up with the suits at Columbia Records, who were trying to make him sing rock & roll. When his contract expired at the beginning of the 1970s, he and Hassett formed a label to help him realize his aesthetic ambitions, and Improv was born. Bennett recorded five albums for the label between 1975 and 1977 before it went bankrupt. These recordings may not have sold well - due largely to distribution problems - but all of them were critically acclaimed

TONY BENNETT, BILL EVANS ALBUM: this is the original Fantasy CD version (not the 20-Bit remaster) that Sony apparently purchased and included because of it's classic status. An incredible album, but nothing new in packaging or mastering. The artwork is completely different from those sets and very nice. Among the tracks are 2 found only on this and the GH of 50's CD: "The Party's Over" and "Climb Every Mountain".

Bennett, whose recorded legacy has been gathered in a 76-disc boxed set titled The Compete Collection, has been doing that for over 60 years: saving our souls with the greatest songs ever written. As the studio album followup to Tony Bennett's breakthrough record, I Left My Heart in San Francisco, I Wanna Be Around had a lot to live up to, but since San Francisco was a culmination of Bennett's development, and not a fluke, I Wanna Be Around turned out to be almost on a par with its predecessor.

Bennett, whose recorded legacy has been gathered in a 76-disc boxed set titled The Compete Collection, has been doing that for over 60 years: saving our souls with the greatest songs ever written. The Complete box is an absolute necessity, first because it contains several previously unreleased albums, like On the Glory Road and From This Moment On, a live concert taped in Las Vegas that collectors have been salivating over since 1964. Finally I'm looking forward to seeing Complete more complete with new upcoming albums gathering whatever Tony Bennett wants to sing such as The Jerome Kern and Kurt Weill Songbooks. 14 people found this helpful.

Collectors will find the box irresistible as much for its fine, if simple, presentation as for the material itself.

Columbia Records took Tony Bennett's recording of the Beatles' "Something," which had appeared on the previous year's Tony Sings the Great Hits of Today! and had been a number 23 easy listening hit the previous spring, and put it at the top of his 1970 album, which otherwise was a collection arranged and conducted by Peter Matz (who handled the early. Barbra Streisand albums) and produced by Teo Macero (who handled jazz artists like Miles Davis).
