Album: The Tender Lovin' Country Sound. You sent me roses when you said goodbye but I didn't throw them away I planted them in my garden and I'm carrying for them every day The roses grew perfect as perfect can be like the sweet love that we used to know With the tears that I cry I know they won't die I'll just wait and. watch the roses grow. I'll keep them forever they're all I have left Of the sweet love that we used to know With the tears that I cry I know they won't die I'll just wait to watch the roses grow.

The Fascinating Story of Wilma Burgess, Country's Underrated Trailblazer. By Bobby Moore1 year. Aside from a 1982 covers album titled Could I Have This Dance?, Burgess seems to have phased out her recording career in the late 1970's. Still, her impact on Nashville night life was only beginning. By the late 1980's, she owned, ran and performed at Nashville's first women-only bar, the Hitchin' Post. She also spent some time helping Mary run the Jim Reeves Museum. Rumors persist that Burgess might have been openly gay within the country music business. While fans weren't told the truth, her colleagues allegedly knew all along.

Wilma Burgess (born Wilma Charlene Burgess; June 11, 1939 – August 26, 2003) was an American country music singer. She rose to fame in the mid-1960s and charted fifteen singles on the Billboard C&W charts between 1965 and 1975. 2. Two Little Rivers of Tears. 3. Tip of My Fingers.

Wilma Burgess enjoyed a clutch of country hits during the latter part of the 1960s before abruptly retiring from the music business. The possessor of a warm and appealing voice, she was an underrated song stylist who was at her best when handling romantic ballads, most notably her soulful rendition of Bob Montgomery's "Misty Blue" (1967). A native of Orlando, Florida, she had little interest in country music until, as a student in the 1950s, she attended an Eddy Arnold concert and found herself drawn to the emotional honesty of his performance. In 1960 she completed her studies. One of these publishers, Charlie Lamb, of Sound Format, was impressed by her voice and introduced her to one of the creators of the famed "Nashville Sound", the producer Owen Bradley. In 1962 she cut a double-sided single, "Confused", "Something Tells Me", for United Artists, but it made little impact on the charts.
