Berry Gordy III (known professionally as Berry Gordy J. born November 28, 1929) is an American record executive, record producer, songwriter, film producer and television producer. He is best known as the founder of the Motown record label and its subsidiaries, which was the highest-earning African-American business for decades. As a songwriter he composed or co-composed a number of hits including Lonely Teardrops, Shop Around and Do You Love Me, all of which topped the US R&B charts
