Against the grain am I living again In a ray of light Waiting and waiting for the floods to come Fire flies into my eyes As I follow the sun Where to now where will we go. Fa fa fa And I believed you But you deceived me In an hour in a minute in a second I hope The floods will come. Magnificent is disarray Watch me tumbling down Waiting and waiting for the floods to come Walk away fist in the air feet on the ground Tell me oh tell me Where is it to be this time The floods will not come Should have known better. But on the lone outing he recorded with the Armoury Show, Jobson's grandiosity finally found the proper setting. Joined by former Magazine members John McGeoch (guitar) and John Doyle (drums), as well as Skids bassist Russell Webb, Jobson created an album that, though it went largely unnoticed, outdid Big Country – and nearly every other "big-guitar" band of the time, save U2 – in anthemic power. While McGeoch doesn't offer an instantly identifiable guitar sound here, like the Edge's echoed riffs or the bagpipe chime of Adamson and Big Country's Bruce Watson, his.

Meanwhile, the spoken-word musings of Jobson's post- Skids solo career baffled at least as many fans as they attracted. But on the lone outing he recorded with the Armoury Show, Jobson's grandiosity finally found the proper setting. Joined by former Magazine members John McGeoch (guitar) and John Doyle (drums), as well as Skids bassist Russell Webb, Jobson created an album that, though it went largely unnoticed, outdid Big Country – and nearly every other "big-guitar" band of the time, save U2 – in anthemic power
The Armoury Show were a British new wave band, formed in 1983 and consisting of Richard Jobson on vocals, Russell Webb on bass guitar, John McGeoch on guitar and John Doyle on drums. Each member had previously been in critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands; Jobson and Webb were in The Skids, whilst McGeoch and Doyle had been in Magazine. The band was named after The Armory Show, a famous 1913 modern art exhibition held in New York. They released six singles and one studio album in their brief existence. According to Russell Webb, in the sleeve notes of the 2013 re-issue of their album Waiting for the Floods, the intention was not to be a band, but a collective of musicians getting together to write songs and make music in the studio. McGeoch persuaded his compatriots to take their songs on the road and, following a press showcase at The Venue in London, the band signed to Parlophone and EMI America.
