Brinkmann - When Horses Die ... album FLAC

When Horses Die is a iter album reminiscent of Matthew Dear's Asa Breed, but where Dear's electronic cabaret was mostly bright and fizzy, Brinkmann's is riveted in jet-black steel.
Overall then, When Horses Die is a rare work indeed. Brinkmann's double-disc album, A Certain Degree Of Stasis, and a 1974 Eastman recording are both due out in September.

Horses is the debut studio album by American musician Patti Smith, released on November 10, 1975, on Arista Records. Smith, a fixture of the then-burgeoning New York punk rock music scene, began recording Horses with her band in 1975 after being signed to Arista Records, with John Cale being enlisted to produce the album.
When Horses Die features Brinkmann's incredibly Germanic voice on every track except for the closing "40," and when he first starts softly croaking over the gentle piano of "Words" you might wonder why he's bothering.

Musically, Brinkmann’s influences cover a lot of territory and the results are unsurprisingly often more non-linear and atmosphere-based than anything verse/chorus/verse. Overall then, When Horses Die is a rare work indeed. Short like an old fashioned album to which it pays homage, complete thematically and with enough sonic depth and vibe to keep you coming back again, it’s a breathtaking record. So seeing someone like Thomas Brinkmann essentially create his own tribute to those roots with an art/goth album, When Horses Die, is both appropriate and intriguing - and Brinkmann's hardly hiding it, with his first two thank yous in the liner notes going to Trent Reznor and Winston Tong.
When Horses Die is a iter album reminiscent of Matthew Dear's Asa Breed, but where Dear's electronic cabaret was mostly bright and fizzy, Brinkmann's is riveted in jet-black steel. The dominant themes are love and devotion, although rendered in Brinkmann's gravelly, drawling baritone, devotion's seamy underbelly- a dark, helpless thrall- comes into the open.

Germany's legendary label-owner, remixer and prolific experimentalist Thomas Brinkmann presents the follow-up to Klick Revolution. Please note: there is NO TECHNO on this album. The source of inspiration is a strange mix between Suicide, Trent Reznor, Joy Division, old Tuxedomoon, and Another Day On Earth-era Brian Eno. Ten tracks start up with piano and the broken arrangement between distorted guitars and bass - no drums, no beats, just lyrics from Tuxedomoon's Winston Tong.

When Horses Die features Brinkmann's incredibly Germanic voice on every track except for the closing "40," and when he first starts softly croaking over the gentle piano of "Words" you might wonder why he's bothering. It's also, and this is I think the key to When Horses Die, kind of amusing. Pa. merican album into something approaching pop music. The title track, which like many songs here takes its lyrics from a poet rather than Brinkmann himself, isn't quite as effectively sonically as "Uselessness. But as Brinkmann wistfully semi-croons about wishing you were here, it actually makes a convincing case for him as a synth-pop figure rather than a minimalist techno one.
