Songs of Freedom is a four-disc box set containing music by Bob Marley and the Wailers, from Marley's first song "Judge Not", recorded in 1961, to a live version of "Redemption Song", recorded in 1980 at his last concert. The song "Iron Lion Zion" was first released on this compilation, in what is often considered the original mix (although the original is said to not have included the harmony vocals from the I-Threes)
The question is, is this a reasonable track to take? For the most part, yes it is, even if it tends to be a little misleading. That problem isn't too great, since Songs of Freedom isn't targeted at the audience that would want just the basics - Legend already exists for them, and that.
When Songs of Freedom was released originally in 1992, it was a perfect complement to either a greatest hits collection like Legend or the entire collection of the reggae master's albums. Songs boasts enough of the recognizable from Marley's canon to address the hit seeker, but the set also reaches way, way back to include Marley's first single, the youthful "Judge Not" from 1962, and then closes more than four hours later with a 1980 live take of "Redemption Song" from his last concert. The albums covered during this time period are NATTY DREAD, RASTAMAN VIBRATION & EXODUS the latter of which was voted by Time Magazine as the most influential album of the 20th century.
Uprising was the last album by Bob Marley to be released in his lifetime. The day it reached the shops on 1 June 1980, Marley and the Wailers opened for Fleetwood Mac at the 69,000-capacity Reitstadion in Munich. It was the second night of the Uprising tour, a European trek which took them to some of the biggest venues on the continent and to several countries they hadn’t played before, including Switzerland, Ireland, Scotland and Italy . Much like Survival before it, Uprising was a deep and serious collection of songs that explored fire and brimstone themes of sin and salvation. In ‘Real Situation’ it seemed as if the apocalypse was at hand.

It is the final track on Bob Marley & the Wailers' ninth and final album made when he was alive, Uprising, produced by Chris Blackwell and released by Island Records. Unlike most of Marley’s works, Redemption Song is a strictly solo acoustic track with no sign of the reggae style present in nearly everything else he has made. Instead, it is a deeply contemplative and personal song that evoked the sound and style of another Bob: Bob Dylan
