William "Smokey" Robinson Jr. (born February 19, 1940) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive. Robinson was the founder and frontman of the Motown vocal group the Miracles, for which he was also chief songwriter and producer. Robinson led the group from its 1955 origins as "the Five Chimes" until 1972 when he announced a retirement from the group to focus on his role as Motown's vice president.

Smokey is the debut studio album by American soul singer, songwriter, and producer Smokey Robinson. It was released on June 19, 1973, by Tamla Records and was Robinson's first solo record after his departure from The Miracles. The album featured the single "Sweet Harmony", which was his tribute to his former singing partners in the Miracles: Bobby Rogers, Pete Moore and Ronnie White. Smokey was arranged by Dave Blumberg, Gene Page and Willie Hutch

Lyrics to "Being With You" song by Smokey Robinson: I don't care what they think about me and I don't care what they say I don't care what they think, . .being with you. Honey don't go, don't leave this scene Be out of the picture and off of the screen Don't let them say "we told you so" They tell me you'll love me and then let me go. I've heard the warning voice From friends and my relations They tell me all about your heart-break reputation. I don't care what they think about me and I don't care what they say, no I don't care what they think, if you're leaving I'm gonna beg you to stay I don't care if they start to avoid me I don't care what they do I don't care about.

Album: Hits Of Smokey Robinson (1981). Robinson wrote this for Kim Carnes after she recorded his song "More Love," which was produced by George Tobin. What Smokey didn't know was that Carnes and Tobin were no longer working together, but instead of explaining that to Smokey, Tobin brought him in and convinced him to record the song himself. Tobin had his own studio, and floated an unusual idea: he would record and produce the song as a Smokey Robinson solo effort. Robinson, who was one of the top Motown producers, had never been produced before as a solo act, but he went for the idea

Back in the late '70s, Smokey Robinson made a great comeback with his 1979 hit "Cruisin'. With his broadened lyrical style and more knowing in his voice, the aesthetic powered such album classics as Where There's Smoke and Warm Thoughts. 1981's Being With You, in effect, ended the ride, but the hits more than continued. The single "Being With You" is a deft update of Robinson's '60s naïveté and is certainly a great pop record. The same can't be said for most of the tracks here
