1-18-17 447. US. 2017. ATO Records (2). 0882305727.

From the creepy introduction "The Valley" to the brief closer "The Ends?," the album is not suited for a casual listen, instead demanding listeners get lost in the weirdness and enjoy the ride

Primus leader/bass wizard Les Claypool told Rolling Stone that the band’s new album is based on Italian writer and illustrator Ul de Rico’s 1978 book, The Rainbow Goblins. Claypool told the magazine, I remember being incredibly impressed with the artwork and the storyline and the content and the message, and I thought, ‘Wow, this would make a great piece of music.

Each track has same high quality 320kbps CBR format.

The album contains a lot of things in this style, owing more to Pink Floyd circa 70-71 than the trio’s own impressive back catalog. The Dream swirls backward loops mixing with small touches of weirdness but no climax and little reason to stick around to the lackluster The End. The Storm is slightly better with bubbling bass line but it never coalesces, even when the full band closes out the tune. The strongest track, The Scheme contains flashes of vintage Primus with the most interesting bass/ drum pairings, guitar slashes and direct vocals. About the author: Shawn Donohue. Veteran music writer Shawn Donohue has covered the sound of America for Glide Magazine since 2005.

How will the album, a story of goblins as much as music hold our attention? Whilst nine studio albums since 1990 may not seem like a huge amount, the band’s touring history is no joke. Having gone through several drop-ins and drop-outs of line-up changes, the band have weathered many a storm. With frontman Les Claypool taking influence from children’s book, The Rainbow Goblins, we take a seat and listen to th. hem, story

It is the band's first album of original material since 2011's Green Naugahyde, and is the first LP featuring original material with drummer Tim Alexander since 1995's Tales from the Punchbowl.

From there, it is Claypool’s signature bass and the story begins. At this point, the drums have not even kicked in and listeners will already be moving their head to the grove. It becomes clear these guys are not just creating music here, they are creating an experience. Overall, Primus definitely can tell a story.

Great Album - with great atmosphere in Primus style of the highest level...
Kazijora
really cool rainbow splatter vinyl, a weird proggy style primus which tbh takes getting used to but the album is still cool.
Thofyn
This pressing seemed to have a few bad eggs. My first copy had pops and clicks that I could not get out even after 3 runs through the spin-clean. Sent that one back and it's replacement sounded flawless. (complete conjecture here, but I think this might be an issue with the splatter and maybe some of the records not being heated to the right temperature or changing temperatures too quickly while being pressed.)
Samulkree
Good copy. haven't heard Rainbow splatter. Anyone knows who pressed this standard edition?
Sataxe
Check the deadwax, post it here and I'll identify it for you.
Windworker
totally awesome pressing ! sounds terrific ! very nice addition to my collection !
Rigiot
Mine's is a very clean copy, particularly for a coloured vinyl - very little noise. Comes with 320kbps mp3 download card.
Fenius
man i cant get that download 2 work you not that i use em but ilike having it in case i scratch my stuff you have issues im a dum dum so

These (autographed/splatter) were sold un-sealed. Most all of them had extremely bent jackets (lower right corner, to be exact). I had the merch guy at the NYE show let me look through them all and of the one's he had, only ONE was "MINT." I'm not sure about the second table's supply.
Gldasiy
I was at the Melbourne show last weekend and the jackets were a little beaten up too, both for Primus and Dean Ween. Merch at those shows was ridiculously expensive, but a signed copy of this is still great to have.
Tisicai
I think side B starts with The Scheme, not ends on side A.
ALAN
A great album through and through.. better than Green Naughahyde, which I thought had too much of a 'Les Claypool' sound (his solo stuff) and not enough 'Primus' sound. My favorite song is also 'The Storm'.
Lightwind
Definitely nice to see my favorite band back with some new material. It is a short, but powerful album that will definitely leave longtime fans wanting more (and hopefully soon). Fans will still get the bouncy, thumpy tracks they expect, but with a darker, trippier twist. Favorite track off the album is The Storm (for what my opinion is worth). The rainbow record is BEAUTIFUL and plays great for me. Other than the underwhelming length of the album I still give the boys an A. No question that Primus still sucks.
Oppebro
My copy has quite a few pops and clicks even after a VPI cleaning. The surface noise makes it hard to listen to, which is unfortunate because I really like the album. Are others having similar experiences, or did I get a bad copy?
Zepavitta
My copy is the same. Pops and crackles at the end of side one.
Kanal
Mine sounds really great! No surface noise at all... i gave it a brush before the first play, those inners they used usually leave the records a little dirty and it had a bit of static.

iron666monkey My copy has quite a few pops and clicks even after a VPI cleaning. The surface noise makes it hard to listen to, which is unfortunate because I really like the album. Are others having similar experiences, or did I get a bad copy? I have the same exact issue with surface noise on track 1. It's driving me nuts but seeing it might be a common pressing issue so I don't know if I should bother exchanging.
Anaragelv
After a few more spins, with a dry brushing in between, most of the surface noise on side one has gone away. Really enjoying this album!
Zodama
On mine, side one has a little surface noise, but really only audible at the run in/run out. Side two sounds great!
Lilegha
Welcome back, Primus.. We missed you. You still suck.
