The Golden Wire is a guitar paced cascade of rock, jazz, blues and classically textured world beat that translates into 11 exquisite numbers. The support crew for the album is intriguing, including cer David Hentschel, Doug Lunn and Yellowjacket Jimmy Haslip on bass, Paul McCandless of Oregon on brass and reeds, drummer Kurt Wortman and, on one transcendent track, Anglo-Indian singer Najma Akhtar; the sound they achieve under Summers' guidance is extraordinary.

Andrew James Somers (born 31 December 1942), known professionally as Andy Summers, is an English guitarist who was a member of the rock band the Police. Summers has recorded solo albums, collaborated with other musicians, composed film scores, and exhibited his photography in galleries. Andrew James Summers was born in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire. Titles such as "The Island of Silk" and "Rain Forest in Manhattan" give a clue as to the almost dreamlike feel Summers is going for. He is largely successful, his uniquely fluid guitar tone combining with instruments such as wooden flute, percussion, oboe, and xianjiang tambourine, while "Piya Tose" features Indian vocalist Najma Akhtar. It's an at once soothing and adventurous album and is highly recommended.

All songs by Andy Summers, Golden Wire (BMI) This is a Golden Wire Production. Having long ago become far too rich, clever and talented for popular music, former Police guitarist Andy Summers now only releases noodly jazz albums, of which Earth & Sky is his latest. Mention the name Andy Summers, and two words inevitably follow – The Police. It may surprise some that a guitarist who once lorded it over packed stadiums is now, on his British visits at least, to be found playing in cramped basements in front of audiences that barely stretch to three figures. But when his trio take a week’s residency at Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho, in London, as they will in April, it will be no comedown.
