Doolittle is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Pixies, released in April 1989 on 4AD. The album's offbeat and dark subject material, featuring references to surrealism, Biblical violence, torture and death, contrasts with the clean production sound achieved by the newly hired producer Gil Norton. Alfred Doolittle is a smooth-talking garbage man, a serial monogamist (although he's not always really married), a drunk, and a deadbeat dad. He's got a lot to say about "middle class morality" and complicated theories about the deserving and undeserving poor. In other words, he's kind of like Henry Higgins: a philosophizing scuzzball that we somehow enjoy watching. Alfred Doolittle has principles, but they're not exactly conventional: he has no trouble milking five pounds from Higgins, but he doesn't want anymore than that.

Doolittle is the sophomore effort from the Boston-based Punk band The Pixies. The album was very influential among the Alternative Rock scene in the ‘90s, most notably influencing bands like Nirvana and the The Smashing Pumpkins. The sudden loud to soft dynamic shift present on songs such as Tame became a staple of the '90s Alternative sound. The album masterfully mixes Noise Rock and Punk tendencies with catchy Pop tunes, to create a unique, surreal experience. Since the release of the record, it has been acclaimed by many critics and has been included on many Best Albums of the 80s.
