This is a discography of the Jazz trombonist J. J. Johnson (January 22, 1924 – February 4, 2001). 1949: J. Johnson's Jazz Quintets (Savoy) – LP release of J. Johnson Savoy singles and EPs from 1946~49. 1949: Modern Jazz Trombones (Prestige) – B-side of 10 inch album, released 1951. Kai Winding on A-side. Johnson with Sonny Stitt (Prestige) – also issued as part of 1951's, 10 inch Modern Jazz Trombones Volume Two. Also reissued in 1957 as part of Sonny Stitt/Bud Powell/J.

J. Johnson (born James Louis Johnson) in Indianapolis, Indiana, (January 22, 1924 - February 4, 2001), was an American jazz trombonist, composer and arranger. He recorded a number of popular albums with fellow trombonist Kai Winding, as well as many solo albums, and was a sideman on many classic jazz recordings. Several of his compositions, including "Wee Dot," "Lament," and "Enigma" are considered jazz standards.

Includes Van Gelder Stereo stamp in the dead wax. Sounds perfect, the true RVG 60’s sound (with drums on the right, of course). I don’t understand why this issue of this fantastic album is so cheap about 20$ NM, but I’m happy with it.
