De-Loused in the Comatorium is the debut studio album by American progressive rock band the Mars Volta, released on June 24, 2003, on Gold Standard Laboratories and Universal Records. Based on a short story written by lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala and sound manipulation artist Jeremy Michael Ward, the concept album is an hour-long tale of Cerpin Taxt, a man who enters a week-long coma after overdosing on a mixture of morphine and rat poison.

De-Loused in the Comatorium is the debut studio album by The Mars Volta, and it remains their most successful album to date, both commercially and critically. It was released in 2003 to widespread critical acclaim, with Rhythm magazine voting it the 9th best drumming record, and the track Drunkship of Lanterns named by Rolling Stone as the 91st best guitar song in history. De-Loused is a concept album based on a short story written by members of the band.

De-Loused In The Comatorium (Cass, Album). Plus One Records Malaysia. Hi there, About the 2xlp album. I'm not 100% sure but I believe GSL printed these copies in a few times. First pressing was in 2003 (5000 copies I believe maybe less), some records (the other 10000) had a later date I believe. They have the same catalog number but there is a difference between them. Maybe some people can check this info. I only have a copy from 2003.
De-Loused in the Comatorium will undoubtedly rekindle prog, or at least spur a reassessment of the genre. Somewhere, kids will proclaim The Mars Volta to sound like Fugazi's End Hits mixed with The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (which it sort of does)- the Comatorium title "Eriatarka" even sounds like Spanish for "Aquatarkus"- but few will confess to actually liking Genesis or ELP. Though The Mars Volta may be prog in the traditional sense, they're in no way "progressive," just as The Hives do not record their music in a "garage. If any, the album constantly recalled during Comatorium listens is Mansun's 1998 sprawl, Six. The seagull-screaming guitar solos on "Roulette Dares" mimic Dominic Chad's playing on tracks like "Negative" and "Shotgun". The magic-trick studio transitions sound eerily similar on both records.

When I first heard De-Loused in the Comatorium, The Mars Volta's first full length, I had that exact feeling. While I had listened to artists like King Crimson and Rush, I had never listened to such a completely frenetic and, honestly, strange album as this one. I was completely taken aback by how 'kick ass' everyone was on here. De-Loused in the Comatorium is very much what can be considered a landmark album. It would be nigh impossible to debate that, as an album that has come out in the past 5 years, that it was extremely unique and, for at least the time being, will influence many up and coming bands. However, that is not to say it is a classic album by any means, nor is it amazing. It's merely an impressive album, showcasing one of, if not the, most talented band that is even relatively known.
