Faith No More displayed an even more experimental effort on their next album, Angel Dust, which was released in 1992. One critic writes that the album is "one of the more complex and simply confounding records ever released by a major label" and another writes that the single "'A Small Victory', which seems to run Madame Butterfly , Album of the Year and break-up (1995–1998) Fool for a Lifetime Fool for a Lifetime was released in 1995, and varies greatly from song to song in style; post-hardcore/punk, country, jazz, bossa nova, thrash metal, gospel music, along with other signature FNM elements, are woven together throughout the album.

Faith No More, a San Francisco-based band, have recorded approximately 100 songs over the course of their career; this includes material from six studio albums, one live album, and numerous B-side tracks and out-takes. Faith No More were founded in 1981 as Sharp Young Men, and changed their name to Faith No Man before releasing the 1982 double A-side single "Quiet in Heaven", "Song of Liberty".

all rights belong to faith no more. One of the most experimental, influential alternative-metal albums of all time. Bought this new more than 25 years ago, hasn´t lost a bit of it's fresh inventiveness and easily mops any hard rock, metal album released today. A seminal masterpiece and arguably the best and most strikingly original and entertaining rock album of the 90's.

In 1992, Warner Bros. figured that lightning could strike twice at a time when oodles of (mostly horribly bad) funk-metal acts were following in Faith No More and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' footsteps. They sent the former into the studio, where they went in, recorded, and released a bizarro masterpiece.

Goldcrusher
After hearing this for the first time, i was really disappointed. See - the first thing that i heard by FNM was "King For A Day..." and this one didn't sound much like it. But that's exactly the point - none of their albums really sound similar to each other. "King..." was more chaotic, while "Angel Dust" was the type of album which was supposed to provide "Epic #2" (cover of "I'm Easy" written around 1992 came very close, but its not included here), but didn't. In a retrospect, it pissed off a lot of people, since it sounded nothing like "The Real Thing" and had less emphasis on rap and more on rock. This one features plenty of heavy songs (Jizzlobber, Smaller & Smaller, Malpractice, Caffeine) as well slow and mid-tempo rock stuff (Everything's Ruined, Midlife Crisis, Kindergarten, RV). Not to say that there are no missteps (i don't see much point to an instrumental Midnight Cowboy at the end and some of the heavier songs don't sound too exciting). But, all in all, this is a good example of how FNM were able to create an album in a style different from the previous one and really take it to a next level, even while losing mainstream popularity and some fans in the process.
Global Progression
I never realized that Easy was added as a bonus track, I still only own the original cd version which I bought soon after it came out. I started listening to FNM before The Real Thing came out (owned Introduce Yourself on cassette), and though I thought TRT was an amazing album, when I first heard Angel Dust, I knew it was the best thing they had ever done. Anyone I knew felt the same, and I never thought it was lacking in rock, perhaps it was lacking in repetitive stadium rock, but isn't that a good thing?I only heard Easy later on (I never even saw the video until years later), and I thought it was okay, but nothing compared to the greatness of Angel Dust. I remember hearing "Digging the Grave" when it first came out, and thought "what the hell happened to FNM?". I read that Jim Martin was out of the band, and thought Mike Patton was making great music elsewhere, I didn't think the last two FNM albums were very good.I suppose if Fool and King were my introduction to FNM, I would think Angel Dust a bit strange ... but I like strange and I think most FNM fans do too.I still listen to Angel Dust all the time, and compared to all the other alternative crap that was coming out in the mid 90s, it is a classic.
Risinal
Whilst I agree with Alastis that each FNM album is different to the last, I have to say that Angel Dust, hands down, was the pinnacle of FNM's creative potential. An album so much MORE chaotic than King for a Day, I would say that Angel Dust makes everything else FNM have done sound like rock-for-the-masses. Whilst I love all FNM material, Angel Dust is close to being one of the most essential rock albums of the 90s. When AD was released, it set a new standard for creative, genre-pushing music that no other band at the time could come close to. Coming after The Real Thing, AD caused a magma-displacing rift down the centre of the FNM fanbase. Those that wanted more head-banging, foot-tapping, radio friendly rap-rock hated it, whilst those looking for genius lapped it up in droves. Whilst King and Album of the Year showed that FNM had ridiculous amounts of talent, they were always following in the shadow of greatness. The original release did not include Easy and the album I believed, suffered greatly from it's later addition. After the incredible success of Epic and The Real Thing, the record company was not entirely happy with AD. There are no obvious hits on this album and the later inclusion of Easy on subsequent re-presses was due to record company pressure. Throwing this 'hit' at the end ruined the climax of the album and whilst the punters purchased it with great fervor after Easy's success, in my opinion, the ambiance of the album was affected. Midnight Cowboy is a phenomenal closer to this schizophrenic, self-centred masterpiece and Angel Dust in its true form must be listened without Easy at the end.Angel Dust was recorded during a time when FNM were in disarray, with the removal of Jim Martin and the constant rumours of infighting and the breaking up of the band causing massive stress on the band iteslf, and the mood of this album captures these emotions perfectly. It's a dark, searing record that rips at the very fabric of life itself. It's definitely not a record to rock out too, but it is one of the most important rock records ever released.
