When guitarist Al DiMeola left Return to Forever (again) after their 2008 reunion tour, Chick Corea solicited the help of the band's original axeman, Bill Connors, to rejoin the band for another tour. He did. While he rehearsed with Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White, health issues forbade him from returning to the road. Corea then enlisted his former Elektric Band guitarist Frank Gambale, as well as guest violinist Jean-Luc Ponty.

Return To Forever biography Founded in NYC, USA in 1972 - Disbanded in 1978 - Reformed briefly in 1983 & 2008 - Active Live since 2010. RETURN TO FOREVER was jazz keyboard player Chick COREA's jazz-rock fusion band of the 1970s. That summer, RETURN TO FOREVER recorded its fourth album, "Where Have I Known You Before", which was released in September. Backed by an extensive tour that ran through December and closed at Carnegie Hall, the album reached the pop Top 40 and remained in the charts more than five months. The American fusion group was active between 1972-78 (plus a brief comeback in 1983 if I understood right), recording a handful of classic albums which, if you ask me and thousands of others, still offer some of the very best instrumental fusion music ever. Yes, the group also made some vocal music with . Flora Purim, but that's not relevant now.

In 1983 this lineup did, in fact, return briefly to the stage, but did not record a new album, and rather recorded only one track that was issued on Corea's Touchstone album entitled "Compadres". The final incarnation of Return to Forever featured a four-piece horn section and Corea's wife Gayle singing vocals, but recorded only one studio album, Musicmagic (1977).

When Chick Corea reassembled the members of the most commercially successful version of his Return to Forever ensemble in 2008 and embarked on an extensive tour, it was the jazz fusion event of the year. Younger fans barely born when the ensemble's high watermark, Romantic Warrior, was released in 1976 could finally see the group in the flesh.
