Painkiller is the twelfth studio album by British heavy metal band Judas Priest, released in September 1990. It is the last Judas Priest album to feature lead singer Rob Halford until his return for the 2005 album Angel of Retribution and the first to feature drummer Scott Travis. Painkiller is the first Judas Priest album to feature drummer Scott Travis, who replaced long-time drummer Dave Holland in 1989.

Released September 3, 1990. Painkiller Tracklist. 1. Painkiller Lyrics. This is one of their best albums with the heaviest songs from the band. It’s more of a Thrash Metal genre. Great songs from this album are Painkiller and All Guns Blazing. Producers Chris Tsangarides & Judas Priest.

Judas Priest finally released Painkiller on September 3rd, 1990. It was an instant classic. The band came roaring back into the heavy metal universe with perhaps its heaviest release yet. Painkiller was a speed metal masterpiece, and its take no prisoners style was very influential over the next decade and a half, especially to German power metal bands such as Primal Fear and Gamma Ray. Unlike in previous albums, every song is strong on Painkiller. If Painkiller had a weak point, it would be the lyrics that were put together for the album's songs. Judas Priest has never been known for writing deep or introspective lyrics, but what you'll find on Painkiller is some of the worst of their career.

No point bying this one because they did a Blu Spec 2 edition in 2013 with the 2011 japanese remaster instead of this one with the 2001 Astley remaster...

I don't want to spam by replying to every message about it but here's my 2 cents: The dynamics are great and are moreso than both the CD and original vinyl, this is my DR log http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/156999Concerning audio quality, I'd say it's on par with both the original CD and the digital copy that comes with the album. I don't know if it's just the way they were ripped or they genuinely sound like it but judging from the vinyl rips that I've downloaded on Soulseek, I think this reissue sounds much better; the originals sound too dry and trebely.

a great pressing! , it is very clear. such an amazing album. the vinyl is so crisp. it was a joy to take it out of the plastic and put it on the turntable. the price is right also. although i would have payed more. A+ to we are vinyl.

It's a real shame that a great written album like Painkiller got a remaster that sounds terrible (at least in my opinion). The dynamic of the sound was heavily flattened in an attempt to make this remaster as loud as possible. Instruments sound as if they were crammed into a small can and made to fight for space: when guitar solo begins, drums, rhythm guitar and bass are crushed by it. Same thing with vocals. No clarity, no space, just awfully flat recording, which unfortunately is typical of Judas Priest remasters from early 00's
Rolling Flipper
great sound! I could buy it with the US version. nothing to envy.
Amarin
Very nice sound and pressing! Worth getting. Seems we are vinyl does nice judas priest pressings.
Molotok
this thing sounds unbelievable, this a go to record to demo my system.
YSOP
Fantastic pressing, sound dynamics is great with a very clean background.
Kahavor
Solid pressing. Great sound quality, very nice presentation with the jacket and inner sleeve. No complaints here, a fantastic pressing of an equally fantastic album.
Dyni
Good pressing, great sound. the internal booklet is not the same as the original one!
Drelahuginn
The sound on this record didn't "wow" me. However, there are worse pressings out there.
Pedora
I hope that people who praise this reissue know that it's just the remastered CD on a piece of plastic, not a vinyl version of this great album.

We can see written in the back cover: "DENUNCIE A PIRATARIA: [email protected]".Was that released version made in 1992? In 1992 there are no internet Customer Service on Brazil. I'm very convinced it wasn't.
Malanim
I have otherwise this exact version, but the back inlay says:© 2001 Sony Music Entertainment (UK) LTD
Golden Lama
I played this album loud the first time. Amazing album with a clean sound.
Todal
Great pressing. One of the best Priest albums. Amazing comeback.

Is there any way to determine the color of the vinyl other than opening it? I have a sealed copy that I'm gonna leave sealed since they re released it in 2017.
Malodred
Not the quietest vinyl stock I've ever heard but it's a very solid pressing with great dynamics. Nothing like the trashed CD release a while back.Great album - have been waiting for this reissue for years.

MortAU Not the quietest vinyl stock I've ever heard but it's a very solid pressing with great dynamics. Nothing like the trashed CD release a while back.Great album - have been waiting for this reissue for years. How does it compare with the original 1990 cd? Very interested in this
Gribandis
Honestly I think it's got great dynamics. Can hear each instrument clearly, deadwax is thin for optimal vinyl width. 2 Discs would have been great but the.deadwax would probably be 3/4" of an inch to an inch and a half.
Ffyan
This album is pressed very quiet, a lot of dynamics. Not compressed. I have a newer receiver with a phono input wired through an equalizer and I think I turned my receiver up to about -12. As far as the original CD I really couldn't say as I never heard it on my system I have now.
Adorardana
Is it more dynamic than the original cd? And how loud is it pressed?
Dddasuk
what does the record labels look like? are they like original pressings or is it new artwork?
Anaragelv
Side A has the cover artwork (no text/logos) and side B tracklisting with plain background
Rgia
So, can anyone tell about the quality? Loudness War, Compression, bad remastering or things like that. I really hope they didnt use that later CD Remaster tapes...
Enone
I also own an original 1990 pressing and this reissue compares very favorably to it.
Doomwarden
I just received my copy and on my second play through. The cover is good. It is not blurry or pixelated but is a little soft. The LP was clean and quiet. It sounds pretty good but I wouldn't say amazing.I haven't heard an original so I can't compare.I definitely am happy with it so far and the price is right.
Daigrel
I dont know about previous versions but to me this one sounds pretty decent..
Vudomuro
I would argue the most impressive, explosive, in-your-face turn-about in Rock/Metal history! After a rather lulled output from Priest in Turbo and Ram It Down, I was completely floored upon hearing the first- and title- track, Painkiller. Holy smokes, Rob came out blazing with a fury I hadn't heard since Unleashed and Screaming! Oh, and they once and for all said "ok" to double-kicks with new drummer, Scott Travis, which on this album is just the icing on the cake.A most jaw-dropping comeback album that's chalk full of amazing songs from start to finish!
Kerdana
Why is this release missing all the "Remastered" information? It's the same as the US version: https://www.discogs.com/Judas-Priest-Painkiller/release/2381133This should be added:Judas Priest - The Re-Masters –CD, Album, Reissue, Remastered
Dobpota
The crappy remastering has made this album unlistenable.
Tetaian
Lead guitars are louder than the rest of music and.... battle Hymn, which is the introduction to One shot at glory, isn't on the same side.Who had this "ingenious" idea ?
Zeli
Might have lyrics/photo sleeve

Painkiller is an amazing album and a metal classic without a doubt. However this pressing is bad in many ways. The album uses the Jon Astley remasters which is loud and compressed, creating audible distortion especially when the natural loudness of the songs kicks in.On top of that (and I can't believe how they could overlook this), "Battle Hymn" is on a different side than "One Shot at Glory", effectively ruining the build up created by that instrumental and the flow of the album. Very very irritating.Combine that with the rather high price reissues tend to carry make for one hell of a waste of cash.On the up side, the packaging is very nice.
Carrot
Wish I had known this before I ordered it. Oh well, this record (music) is so good I don't mind getting it again if a another press gets released.
Darkshaper
Heavy metal is a music full of stereotypes. From lyrical themes to sounds, from musicians’ attitude to technical exasperation, everything is codified in order to be shocking, explicit and excessive. What makes heavy metal great is precisely its teenage naivety, its lack of any pretentiousness, and its unfiltered energy. Judas Priest are heavy metal in its purest essence. They contributed to create every cliché of the genre, and they are proud of it. After years of success and glory, they gathered all their energy in Painkiller, a monstrous metal meltdown with modern and powerful sounds, characterized by destructive violence and great melodies. Published just before classic heavy metal disappearance, Painkiller is one of the apex of the genre: an high speed ride on a motorbike, with iron’s brilliance, gasoline smell and engine roar.

Very well put. I could not have put it better.Exactly.
