For a band that took their name (slightly reconfigured) from a song on Ultravox's debut album, New Zealand's Mi-Sex were surprisingly rockist in their approach. Even the 1980 single "Computer Games," which boasts a synth-pop sheen far removed from their usual glam-rock roots, sounds more like the Sweet than Depeche Mode. Steve Gilpin's theatrical vocals, full of Brian Connolly-style hiccups and leaps into falsetto, are an interesting counterpoint to the unvarying electronic rhythm, particularly on the memorable stuttering chorus.
