Rainier Fog is the sixth studio album by Alice in Chains and third with William Duvall. The title of the album is a reference to Mount Rainier in Seattle. The album was influenced by Seattle itself and was recorded in Seattle. Rainier Fog Q&A.

Rainier Fog. Out Now. All Music. Release Date: August 24, 2018. Record Label: BMG. The One You Know.

Rainier Fog is the third Alice in Chains album recorded with DuVall, a singer-guitarist who helped the band experience an unexpected new chapter following the death of Staley. After a 2006 world tour together, ideas for new music began to emerge. You get guys like us together and shit’s just going to start happening, says Cantrell, who first worked with DuVall when he toured as part of the guitarist’s Degradation Trip solo tour. Obviously we had gone through a change, but we hadn’t lost our identity. Black Gives Way to Blue was their first album together in 2009, followed by The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here in 2013, and some of the newer songs (including Check My Brain ) have found a permanent place in the set list beside Rooster and Man in the Box. The new album comes after a wait of five years, partly from working out a new record deal with BMG.

Rainier Fog is the first Alice in Chains album in more than 20 years to be recorded in Seattle, where the band recorded at the same studio where, once upon a time, they laid down their 1995 self-titled LP. Additional recording was done in Nashville and Los Angeles with the help of producer Nick Raskulinecz and engineer Paul Figueroa. It was mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool).

Lyrics to "Rainier Fog" song by Alice In Chains: Some things last, sometimes you never get over Live in the past, you find out it's hard to stay sobe.

BGWTB and TDPDH are worthy additions to the legacy and in my opinion, Rainier Fog stacks up comparably. Red Giant" "Drone" and "Deaf Ears Blind Eyes" continue the sludgy, dirty, almost 'doom' feel that AiC has increasingly embodied since their revival in 2009. All I Am" is a powerful, beautiful haunting ballad. Fly" is an upbeat track that sounds like it came straight from Jar of Flies

But Rainier Fog delivers something above those two with inspired song writing and lyrics. These facts gives album not sensation of more-of-the-same but a nostalgic fresh taste. An album to listen to and say: "This is Alice in Chains. xpand. 1 of 1 users found this helpful.

What an album!!!!!! Reminds me 100% their early days. PERFECT COMPOSITIONS - DEEP SONGS!!
Maridor
This album is a beast! 5 words about random stuff.
RUsich155
Sound is great. Clear with very black background. Every song hits hard!
Wnex
Phwoar. This sounds very, very good. I really hope they give the rest of their discography to Chris Bellman to work his magic on. Especially BGWTB and TDPDH - both in serious need of "loudness war" fatigue reduction.
Zulkigis
Such an awesome album. Glad Jerry is keeping the AIC name alive and well. That other guy William isn't bad either :)
Sardleem
Any reviews on actual sound quality...? As fascinating as the splatter chat is... :)
Doath
Sounds great to me. Not as congested/stuffy as BGWTB. Quiet pressing - no clicks/pops/sibilence on my SL-1210GR w/Soundsmith Otello. About the same quality as the MOV Dirt. Not as good as MTV Unplugged from MOV.
Pooker
CD version has lots of clippings unfortunatelly, but it sounds quite ok. Vinyl will not have the same ones, but I am really curious how it sounds since heard that's pressed from the same mastering files as CD.

Mine included a guitar plectrum with the album cover on one side and band logo and Rainier Fog logo on the other.

My LP is the splatter version and has a sticker on the plastic wrap on the back with another barcode located precisely over the original barcode, the number it has is 4 050538 421064, anyone else?
Zargelynd
No, the splatter has a sticker with another barcode located over the original barcode. You linked the same version we are in right now xD
Cerar
here the same with yours. it is the splatter one

That is a US release, made in the EU tho, but no other info, no matrix info, I bought mine at the UK warner website, I don't know about which type of distribution the splatter version had but I'm positive I bought a EU release, so I won't use that version until someone that knows more can confirm it is actually a USA/Europe version. You can see it says Alice In Chains store, no Warner music store.

NickCaveman I'll make some other day an entry for the splatter version, this is a duplicate entry for the standard black version, first in the master release menu, I tried to use this one as the splatter but the guy that made it didn't want to, so I merged both clones anyway and now it is waiting for votes, absolutely same info on both entries. Sorry to hear you damaged your copies, such a shame, the problems I have are at the end of side B and it is static type of sound more than pops per se, like the stylus is going through a gravel road type-of feeling, haha. Pops sound to me like you went over a hole in the road, single hits to the stylus, my problem is a constant distortion to gets strongers as you reach the end of side B. Splatter entry is here https://www.discogs.com/Alice-In-Chains-Rainier-Fog/release/12426656

Yes, thanks I think it was the Warner site. To be honest, I've been a little bit reckless and dropped the second LP on the first LP and my turntable and nearly destroying them both. Not a good moment, I'm usually so careful. Now I have clicks at the start of side B and it clicks towards the very end of side C but because I dropped it on first listen, I have no idea if I've damaged it myself or if the pressing was just like that. It's a great album though to be honest. I'm probably going to wait about another week and see if any new releases get added to Discogs and then I will think about ripping the shrink off, despite usually preferring to keep it on, and pretend I have one of the US releases. I'm not sure about the different matrices though amongst the different pressings but I'm assuming we both have an EU issue which hasn't been added to Discogs yet. Hopefully someone else can contribute? Give it time mate.

warner website, yes, does you copy have noise at the end of side B? I had to wash mine and I got rid of the problems on side A and most of side B but the very end of Maybe is a mess.
Zavevidi
Yes I have this version also. The B/W splatter release but it doesn’t appear to be on Discogs (yet). I bought mine from Warner Music, or maybe the AIC store, can’t actually remember but I’m in the U.K. if that helps you or anyone else to provide release information.
SupperDom
This album is great! I recommend it 100%. Although it doesn't have the same sound as early AIC albums, it still sounds really good and is worth listening to.
happy light
CB in deadwax on standard black version. So that's awesome news!
Jwalextell
Would be awesome if he’d mastered it, unfortunately he’s only cutting the lacquers. GIGO.
