Countess Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald Kennedy (July 22, 1890 – January 22, 1995) was an American philanthropist and socialite. She was deeply embedded in the "lace curtain" Irish Catholic community in Boston, where her father was mayor. She was the wife of businessman and investor Joseph P. Kennedy S. who was United States Ambassador to the Court of St James's. French chanteuse Patricia Kaas recorded a song, "Kennedy Rose," on her 1990 album Scène de vie, which is very critical of the Kennedy family's ambitions for their sons. Rose Kennedy is the First Lady of the United States in Alternate History Novel Fatherland. French singer Benjamin Biolay recorded a song "Rose Kennedy" on his 2001 album "Rose Kennedy.
This album, which begins with childhood pictures of Rose and Joseph P. Kennedy and ends with JFK's congressional campaign is more than the sum of its parts. Here, for example is Rose, smiling wide with her tiny children. Here's another of her skating with her husband and looking like a teenager, though she has five or six children. These pictures are so strikingly different from the dignified icon we saw in later years. Apparently this album is one of fifty owned by the Kennedy library. I completely enjoyed it. I hope that more of the collection is published someday.
