Profile: US vocal group formed in the Bronx, New York, in 1963 by founding members Mark Dinep (lead), Steve Horn(bass), and background members Eddie Schwartz, Henry Levy, and Larry Rosensweig. This group put together a large body of work and recorded the classic Stormy Weather along with Acapella versions of Possibilities, Canadien Sunset, and Happy Teenager plus many other songs on Old Timer and Siamese record labels. This group continued to record and perform until 1968 and also had a large body of work that can be heard on the Acapella recordings of So Much In Love, the haunting Flames 66, Teardrops Follow Me and Stand By Me among others on the Cat-Time and Siamese labels.
Stand by Me" is a song originally performed by American singer-songwriter Ben E. King and written by King, Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller. According to King, the title is derived from, and was inspired by, a spiritual written by Sam Cooke and J. W. Alexander called "Stand by Me Father," recorded by the Soul Stirrers with Johnnie Taylor singing lead . John Lennon recorded his version of the song for his 1975 album Rock 'n' Roll. Lennon's remake was his last hit prior to his five-year retirement from the music industry. Lennon filmed a performance of the song for The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1975. On May 3, 1975 this version was in its second of two weeks at the peak position on the US Hot 100, right in front of King's comeback hit "Supernatural Thing - Part I" at #21.

He is best known as the singer and co-composer of "Stand by Me", a top ten hit in both 1961 and 1986. In 1958, Ben Nelson joined a doo wop group, The Five Crowns. Later that same year, The Drifters' manager fired the members of the group and replaced them with The Five Crowns, who had performed several engagements with The Drifters. Ben E.
