Storytelling puppets : Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is an excellent storytelling song to start with as children often know and love this story from a very young age. Start by reading the fairy tale together. If you don’t have this one in your collection here is a lovely version for little ones.
Now the three bears had gone out to walk a little before this. So when Silver-hair came into the kitchen, she saw the three bowls of porridge. While Silver-hair was lying fast asleep, the three bears came home from their walk. They came into the kitchen, to get their porridge, but when the Big Bear went to his, he growled out: Somebody has been tasting my porridge!
In this version, the three bears live in a castle in the woods and are visited by a fox called Scrapefoot who drinks their milk, sits in their chairs, and rests in their beds. This version belongs to the early Fox and Bear tale-cycle. Southey possibly heard "Scrapefoot", and confused its "vixen" with a synonym for an unpleasant malicious old woman. There are also three sequences of the bears discovering in turn that someone has been eating from their porridge, sitting in their chairs, and finally, lying in their beds, at which point is the climax of Goldilocks being discovered. This follows three earlier sequences of Goldilocks trying the bowls of porridge, chairs, and beds successively, each time finding the third "just right".
Upon this the Three Bears, seeing that some one had entered their house, and eaten up the Little Wee Bear's breakfast, began to look about them. Now the careless Goldilocks had not put the hard cushion straight when she rose from the chair of the Great Big Bear. Now Goldilocks had pulled the pillow of the Great Big Bear out of its place. Somebody has been lying in my bed!"
