The Force (Kool & the Gang album). The Force is the ninth studio by the funk band Kool & the Gang, released in 1977. It failed to generate any major impact, and is now recognized as one of two albums between the group's two periods of success. It was after the first string of hits in the mid and early 1970s, and before the group hit it big in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Bass guitar; vocals; percussion – Robert "Kool" Bell.
See All. Artist Playlists. Kool & the Gang also began working with jazz fusion arranger Eumir Deodato, who produced their records from 1979 to 1982. The first such album, Ladies Night, was their biggest hit yet, the first of three consecutive platinum albums, with the Top Ten singles "Too Hot" and the title track. Celebrate!, released in 1980, spawned Kool & the Gang's only number one hit, "Celebration," an anthem favored by innumerable wedding receptions since.
Simply essential! tracks- Kool & the Gang, Breeze & Soul, Chocolate Buttermilk, Sea of Tranquility, Give It Up, Since I Lost My Baby, Kool Back Again, Raw Hamburger. This was the 1970 debut album by Kool and the Gang, and it remains an important one in their deep catalogue. As you would expect from this early 70s version of the band, the music is a lively stew of jazz, soul, and funk influences. Horns and guitars galore in these mostly instrumental workouts. None of their relatively lame "Ladies Night" 80s type pop tunes, but good and greasy soul-jazz jams. All of the songs were written in collaboration with album producer Gene Redd, the one exception being a dynamite cover of the Smokey Robinson song "Since I Lost My Baby.
