Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No. 1 Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The Rhapsody goes very well, although I would not say that it is better than Entremont/Ormandy or Pennario/Fiedler, let alone the classic William Kapell/Fritz Reiner version. It is certainly clear enough, but is lacking in body. The Piano Concerto N., premiered by Rachmaninov with the New York Symphony Orchestra, is the most virtuosic of the four. For the second performance two months later, Rachmaninov was accompanied by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Gustav Mahler.
Piano Concerto No. 2 - Arthur Rubinstein, Eugene Ormandy, Philadelphia O (RCA). Piano Concerto No. 3 - Evgeny Kissin, Seiji Ozawa, Boston SO (RCA).
