The Dancer and Gift of the Hills, the A-side, is one of the best in the Mills catalogue. The first track is special because even though I heard countless times in 1996 and a couple years after, it never got old, and it still is next level forward thinking music. it doesn't sound like anything else I've ever heard.

I am reading those reviews , and haven't at least read one sentence , anything about Jeff's work , how versatile is in production and composition. His every track is a cosmos for itself , not one is look alike one , but i remember JEff words:"When you find yourself a good groove , a great kick or athmosphere , and use it on to many tracks , know you are on a wrong path of techno! Always search , make something new , even if it sounds like it was done on 8 bit sound , always bring something new"I guess no one took this words for serious , and look at a techno today. You can even find labels , that every "artist" looks , sounds, the same , this is so wrong in so many ways , but i guess you will say i am a hater ... no , not at all , just pointing out , something Jeff was really right!
LONUDOG
I really love the art on this one. one more word.
Xinetan
The Outsiders is based on a sample from Nature Boy - Tobago.
Awene
All this blokes tracks use the same build up, simple looped sample and a predictable 4/4 beat, the result is this, simplistic mind numbingly boring and repetitive absolutely zero originality in it, listen to some real ground breaking albums like Drexciya Neptunes Lair or the Brown Album by Orbital both a billion times more creative and enjoyable than this.
Yanthyr
Important to consider that these are tools for techno DJ's; The ultimate creativity is what you do with them. As for Orbital, Drexciya etc, electronic compositions & intended as a more layered, complex listen. So really we are comparing different things.

If you watch "Jeff Mills - Exhibitionist Purpose Maker" (link: https://vimeo.com/36180310) you'll see that Jeff is juggling 3 decks, letting two tracks play at the same time for a long time, doing hard mixes between tracks then back, playing with the volume and EQ of each track. This creates a lot of variation that isn't there in the source tracks.
Prince Persie
I just reported this comment, I mean seriously STFU! best to keep those `opinions` to yourself next time
Vonalij
LOL, i think your out of your element here..KwestRecords posted a comment on Kevin Rowland & Dexys Midnight Runners - Too-Rye-Ay. about 1 year ago"Classic album"

Drexciya and Orbital were both influenced by Jeff, probably not the other way around. For me Mills is still way ahead of pretty much anyone else (Gerald Donald may be an exception). As much as I also love the 2 albums you mentionned, I wouldn't call them ground breaking, just really really good :) Mills broke a lot more grounds with his radio shows as the wizard, UR, axis, the Mecca EP, the concerts with the philarmonic orchestra, the exhibitionist dvds, and, yes, that Java ep, among others.

They are called tools for a reason and if you watch how jeff mixes them then the way they are constructed makes sense ya fucking retard lolz.

The Dancer and Gift of the Hills, the A-side, is one of the best in the Mills catalogue. The first track is special because even though I heard countless times in 1996 and a couple years after, it never got old, and it still is next level forward thinking music. It is many styles and sounds in one track, with the vocal sample from Jay Denham's Station of the groove (don't know where he got the sample), I used to use it as a break or transition track...it doesn't sound like anything else I've ever heard. It's kind of like a bitter but rich cocktail that's complex and built for the jaded techno enthusiast yearning for something new and different. Well, evergreen, 18 years later, it still inspires me..... Gift of the Hills is a fucking banger of a tribal techno track with off-kilter horns and a flurry of percussion coming at you, and delightfully so!
Nkeiy
Not that Outsiders isn't a fantastic tribal techno track in itself!
Ziena
Another Seminal Set of Classic Mills tracks, i am now buying up duplicates so i can wear just 1 bit of vinyl out, loved these trax back in "the day" and to date, just brilliant from Mills as per!! DJ Proton

A1: Important in that it opens a window to what was just around the corner from both himself and the massive influence it would have on the type of tracks I would pick up from the Swedish techno asault to follow where despite being worthy were often forgettable. However, occasionally you would get a release with one with a chordy homage to the soaring synths contained in this gem and became a signature for me of Beyer's best. Ground breaking though production levels are holding it back here. [EIGHT]A2: Exceptionally short loopy run through that holds little memory for me. [FOUR]B1: Smart loopy techno but production sounds a little shoddy now and definitely mixed quiet. [SIX]B2: Stubbornly loop track that doesn't use the stabs or idea as effectively as say on his later KAT MODA EP [FIVE]

seagater said it all really, music from another place...sheer bliss.

I found myself in a strange place with my turntables a few hours ago. Going through old crates of records and stumbling across Mills, Mills and more Mills, I did the only respectable thing to do -- let the music play. 4 hours of Jeff Mills, what an adventure! Mills has that unique ability to take every ounce of energy out of you with one swift kick from his 909 and dump it all back in with his groovier than now basslines & swinging percussion artifacts. This is one of those records meant to live on in our memories forever.

The title of this ep and Axis11 are an indication of the musical direction Jeff Mills was to head in the following years.Departing from the hard, tough minimal sounds to a well crafted sublime, tribal vibe thrilling dancefloors worldwide. The tracks Axis11 "Casa" and PM001 "Java" and "Outsiders" were truely played to death way back when, just listen, its easy to see why.I thought "The Wizard" couldnt get much better, then he released "The Bells", say no more...!
