Album You Know What It’s Like. What You Gonna Do Now? Lyrics. What you gonna do now that the night's come and it's around you? What you gonna do now that the night's come and it surrounds you? You could wait for the day, well I don't think it'd make a difference I've gone out my way and now you know I can cause a problem. You could pray for the day, well the night's here and never ending No matter what you might say, my resolve is only more unyielding. And it's a shame that you've only lived by yourself All alone, you know, it's never good for your health But you've brought it all on yourself. What you gonna do now that the night's come and it's around you? What you gonna do now that the night's come and it surrounds you? There never will be a day, if you try to go it makes no difference And when I leave you this way, it's the only thing that makes it better
Produced by Carla Dal Forno & Tarquin Manek. Album You Know What It’s Like. Fast Moving Cars Lyrics. Don't go to slow you'll get in my way So come on go faster To stay in one place I have no desire The world's so much vaster Well gums in a bush a vast blue sea I wanna know what else can there be. I'm turned on by racing fast moving cars The flash of lightning So come on surprise me don't be so daft Do something exciting And gums in the bush well I've had my fill I wanna know what else can there be. Now we're alone we can see And now a wild wind rips past.

Carla dal Forno’s breathtaking psych-folk dirge What You Gonna Do Now? was one of the highlights and focal points of our recent Halloween mix, its murky melancholy and deeply unsettling spectral beauty perfectly encapsulating in under 4 minutes the vibe we were attempting to convey throughout the mix. But in truth, any song from dal Forno’s stunning debut LP You Know What It’s Like would have done the trick: the record is an intimately enveloping and beautifully dark creeper, eliciting an eerie aching and a sense of general unease that gets under your skin with repeat listens. Highly recommended for fans of Grouper’s dreamlike drones and Nico’s timeless, poignant windswept pop. You Know What It’s Like is out on October 28 via Blackest Ever Black.
You Know What It’s Like is an album for inbetween days, and occupies inbetween states: plain-speaking pop, disorientated by dub. Psychedelic folk delivered with (post-)punk economy. Drifting in space while still tethered to the ground. This is Carla dal Forno’s debut solo album, following time in cult Melbourne group Mole House and an earlier association with Blackest Ever Black as a member of F ingers and Tarcar. Her voice is an extraordinary instrument: both disarmingly conversational and glacially detached. Saying it like it is, making it up as we go along. It can't last forever. You can't have it all. You know what it's like.
The title track from that record features on You Know What It's Like along with seven other songs, including first single "What You Gonna Do Now?" Blackest Ever Black describes her solo output as "plain-speaking pop, disorientated by dub," with elements of psychedelic folk and post-punk thrown in. The label will host a showcase on October 15th at Corsica Studios in London, with Dal Forno billed alongside Felix K, Pessimist, Dynamo Dreesen and Ossia
Dal Forno’s voice occupies half the tracks on the album. Her softly spoken style suits the hazy whisper of the instrumentals perfectly; never allowing one to supersede the other, and working perfectly in tandem to consolidate her musical rubric. You Know What It’s Like is an exceptionally strong mission statement and a perfect point of entry into Dal Forno’s broader discography – this comes highly recommended from the RwdFwd team. zweikommasieben Magazin Zine.
You Know What's It's Like presents the emotional cente of dal Forno's work with a clarity previously absent from either band. DB Rip" feels like a missed opportunity to bring techno into play, while the title track overdoes its gothic pomp. The rest are slight but elegant mood pieces. Dal Forno is good at these, but it's her pop songs that do more than just tick the BEB boxes.
