Secret Life of Machines is the debut studio album by the rock band Doldrums, released on October 31, 1995 by VHF Records. All music composed by Doldrums. Adapted from Secret Life of Machines liner notes

Overrated album however, the title track "Secret Life Of Machines" is very beautiful melancholic techno. Hydroxy" and "Sitting On Clouds" are my other two picks, not nearly as good as the title track, but better than most of the remaining track of the tracks which aren't that impressive. Mysterium (Original Mix) 6:52. Sterac - Draghixia 6:29. Sterac - The secret life of machines 5:55. Sterac - Astronotes P. (Secret Life Of Machines - 100% Pure - 1995) 6:29. The whole album is great, don't get me wrong, but "Satyricon" is the bottom line for 1990 Deep House. I was suprised to learn this track is from the Netherlands and not from Detroit, when I found out. Reply Notify me Helpful. Repress coming in 2012.

In 1995 Sterac aka Steve Rachmad released his first album 'Secret Life of Machines' on Amsterdam imprint 100% Pure. A composition of nine beautifully sultry tracks from the melodic techno flow of ‘Axion’ to the sheer brilliance, beauty and soul of ‘Astronotes’. It was hailed as a defining highlight in Techno history. 17 years later, Sterac has reached back to that classic milestone in Detroit Techno’s heritage and has given it a whole new lease of musical life for release on 100% Pure in June

STERAC aka Steve Rachmad has reached back to the first album 100% Pure ever released in 1995 – the classic milestone in the history of Detroit Techno 'Secret Life of Machines' and has given it a whole new lease of musical life for release this summer. 17 years ago, in a make shift studio at his parent’s house, Steve Rachmad crafted his first album Secret Life of Machines under the moniker STERAC, using his music machines (Roland TR-808, R-8m, U-20, Juno 106, JX 8p, Yamaha TX-81z and FB-01)  . The timelessness and delicious smoothness of Secret Life of Machines forged a path immediately in the Techno landscape - a path that now Sterac aka Steve Rachmad and 100% Pure have chosen to revisit.

still waiting for draghixia, hydroxy and satyricon to get re-cut and reissued the way they deserve. secret life and sitting on clouds make this repress a valueable possesion, but i'd still insist on publishing the missing tracks (if possible).

Overrated album however, the title track "Secret Life Of Machines" is very beautiful melancholic techno. "Hydroxy" and "Sitting On Clouds" are my other two picks, not nearly as good as the title track, but better than most of the remaining track of the tracks which aren't that impressive. Based on one review here at Discogs, people apparently rave a lot about track 11 "Astronotes" Most of the track didn't get my attention, although it gets better at the end. "Secret Life Of Machines" is a MUST for any techno listener / collector. "Hydroxy" and "Sitting On Clouds" are enjoyable and respectably good. If only the title track was longer (It is unfortunately somewhat short) and managed to take advantage of the longer duration without adding any irrelevant dragging. 6/5 for me ;)
Funky
Still a great release in 2015, I picked up the repress pretty cheap it is missing Satyricon as many have mentioned before but I think even without this track it stands the test of time and still sounds current.

I was super stoked to see that this record was getting repressed. I was super disappointed to see that this record was getting rearranged and hacked up. Guess I will just keep holding out for finding an original pressing somewhere.
Ximinon
can you check if sitting on clouds is significantly different? Or just remastered.. thnx
Nothing personal
Why do people do this? Its completely nonsensical to leave out Satyricon even on the CD version.

This one really confuses me. I understand why they'd want to put less time on each side of the vinyl. I bitch all the time about labels trying to squeeze too much time on each side. But leave off Satyricon!?! And add Thera instead? Why? Go buy the Thera 2x12" LP if you need that track. Decisions like this make no sense to me. Is 100% Pure planning on reissuing Satyricon independently of this release? That'd be fine with me. I was SUPER looking forward to this reissue, but I'm disappointed this didn't include Satyricon. Therefore, I'm still looking for a copy of the original pressing if anyone would like to entertain trades. Check my inventory.Word.
Granijurus
Really disappointed satyricon is not on the re-issue. Not going to bother with this now....gonna hold out for a good copy of the original pressing

Sometimes friendly harassment can work. I've written some--perhaps slightly angry--e-mails to labels about disappointing creative decisions. As long as the criticism is rooted in The Love, I say it's fair play.

I feel the same way. I have the original and honestly it was a great idea to do a remaster. Was looking forward to it then I saw the glaring omissions. Really bothered me. I have that Thera album too. That didn't really help the cause.
Tetaian
Why were two (important) tracks left off this remastered version?

Repress coming in 2012.
Wat!?
So many great tracks. Very zeitgeist. 'Hydroxy' at -8.
Taun
A perfect Electro track @ quartz lock speed. No need to slow it down ;)
Bolv
So many great tracks. Very zeitgeist. 'Hydroxy' at -8.

To me, for "sheer brilliance, beauty and soul" it's Mysterium. Satyricon (see telephase's review) and Astro Notes are also favorites. What a record!
Burking
People go crazy about Astral Notes Parts 1&2, but don't overlook the track Satyricon. It has a break in the middle and towards the end, that sounds like Steve Rachmad went down into the basement of his house and started bangin' on the pipes. Just amazing stripped down Techno.
Vinainl
oh agree agree! I LOVE Satirycon... I put it on a chillout mix a while back, many years ago... that's how incredibly Zen and flexible this track is -- could be relaxing music or all out dance music..
Dolid
this album is a truly inspired effort from steve rachmad, and is perhaps the best release on 100% pure, which is a solid label to begin with. although there is not a single bad cut on this full-length, the sheer brilliance, beauty and soul of the last track, astronotes, has seldom if ever been surpassed in the realm of techno. the scintillating synth line, chord changes, and soaring feeling of the track make this a true classic. although rachmad is now more focused on the dancefloor, this serves as a reminder of how musically talented the guy really is.
