Mockin' Bird Hill is a song written in 3/4 time by Carl "Calle" Jularbo, with lyrics by George Vaughn Horton and perhaps best known through recordings by Patti Page, Donna Fargo, and the duo of Les Paul and Mary Ford in 1951. The music of "Mockin' Bird Hill" is based closely on a Swedish waltz called "Livet i Finnskogarna" (Life in the Finn Woods), recorded by Calle Jularbo in 1915, which enjoyed some popularity in the .

Ska and bluebeat fans will love this British import CD, and even rock & roll fans and British Invasion fanatics should learn a lot from it. Mockin' Bird Hill: The Pye Anthology features 30 songs cut by the Migil 5 from the fall of 1963 (when they were still the Migil 4) through the end of 1965. A lot of the material is shockingly good, featuring solid bluebeat, R&B, jazz-based rock & roll, and British soul. The two bluesy Migil 4 cuts that open this collection are pretty strong on their own terms, reminiscent of the sort of music that Alexis Korner and Blues Incorporated were.
