Bad Words and Evil People: The Transatlantic Anthology 1972-73. After a strong showing in the early '70s, Skin Alley drastically changed their lineup (and shifted their musical gears a bit) for their final two albums, 1972's Two Quid Deal and 1973's Skintight. There was still a strong prog rock base to their songwriting, but their folk and rock tendencies came to the fore on these two records more than ever before. Their deft instrumental technique screamed "prog," but never overshadowed the songs with unnecessary noodling or overt showings of musical dexterity. And that's the thing - there are "songs" here.

Skin Alley were a British progressive rock combo, that existed from 1968 to 1974 and was founded by Thomas Crimble and Alvin Pope. They are best known for their track "Living in Sin". Bad Words And Evil People: The Transatlantic Anthology 1972-73 ‎(2xCD, Comp).

With new members in place, Skin Alley's sound took on a more polished, mainstream approach and began prominently featuring the complex string, woodwind, and brass arrangements of Graham. Their jazz-rock fusion sound was still there, but with decidedly more polish and sophistication. A switch to the Transatlantic label in 1972 heralded the release of the band's third LP,Two Quid Deal, and found the group finally gaining some fame across the big water. In 2006, Castle Music packaged Two Quid Deal and Skintight (along with a pair of singles) for a collection called Bad Words & Evil People: The Transatlantic Anthology 1972-73. J. Scott McClintock.

Natural History is an album by J. D. Souther, released in 2011. It includes new recordings of some of his best known songs, many most prominently recorded by other artists; Best of My Love and New Kid in Town by the Eagles, Faithless Love and Prisoner in Disguise by Linda Ronstadt. That can be heard on the compilation Bad Words and Evil People: The Transatlantic Anthology 1972-73. But in 1969-look at the cover, could it be from any other period-they kicked off with this album. This is strictly keyboard prog, but it works. The tracks are well written, basic songs that foray into organ solos and turn corners with interesting interludes.

In May 1972, Skin Alley appeared at Lincoln Festival's NME-sponsored Giants of Tomorrow marquee. A switch to the Transatlantic Records label in 1972 heralded the release of the band's third LP, Two Quid Deal.
