A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate, or originate, from one point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories. Most meteors are smaller than a grain of sand, so almost all of them disintegrate and never hit the Earth's surface.
its filmed through the phone live at wolftone studios so obviously it sounds like crap. but a taste is a taste ftw.
Whilst it is often imagined that small meteoroids are predominantly derived from comets through stream formation, and thus must have comet-like orbits, in fact the majority of observed meteoroid orbits are more similar to those of Apollo and Aten asteroids, with small, low-inclination orbits.
Comets that originate from the Oort Cloud may fall towards the Sun, a journey that takes over thousands of millions of years. As they reach the inner Solar System they may: Fall into the Su. e captured by a planet and enter a smaller orbit around the Su. ollide with a planet (Shoemaker-Levy 9 hit Jupiter in July 1994. Pass through perihelion and continue back to the Oort cloud, reverting to a lump of ice. CometsComets have a small solid nucleus (few km across) made of ice.
Most meteors occur in the region of the atmosphere called the thermosphere. This meteoric region lies between about 80 km and 120 km (50 to 75 miles) in altitude. This is a general guideline only, since very fast meteors may first become visible above this height, and slow, bright meteors may penetrate below this band. The Andromedid stream is one that is subject to frequent orbital perturbations, and as such, only rarely crosses the Earth’s’ orbit in a manner favorable for producing a meteor storm. The last storm produced from this stream was on November 27, 1885; with 13,000 meteors per hour visible at the peak. By contrast, the last appearance of a shower from this stream was in 1940, with only 30 meteors per hour at the peak.

All things in space do not have an orbit. The recently observed A/2017 U1 came from outside our solar system and left rather quickly, never to be seen again. An object’s orbit is simply the path the object takes, a path determined by inertia, gravity, and centrifugal force. The meteors are in orbit around the Sun; the Earth is in orbit around the Sun. A meteor’s path can cross the path of the center of the Earth or more generally, the crossing point can be offset from the center of the Earth but be within the radius of the Earth. If a meteor and the Earth are going to be going through that point at the same time, they will collide.
